Mu:Screen
three generations
of Chinese video art
1 June - 9 July 2010
Contemporary Chinese art is now firmly established as a leading force in the international art world. Operating independently of the commercial sphere, China's video art is gaining attention for its exciting and daring approaches as it questions a broad range of issues.
Mu:Screen - three generations of Chinese video art showcases a group of artists whose works may be in turn amusing and unsettling. The apparent playfulness in their videos and animations belies darker lines of enquiry as they innovate with ink, printing and installation. From the highly influential work of Zhang Peili and Wang Gongxin, the two forefathers of video art in China, an exciting, independent field has arisen. This exhibition presents an overview of work by these artists alongside their protégés and recent graduates. Including:
Wang Gongxin
Zhang Peili
Chen Shaoxiong
Yang Fudong
Kan Xuan
Wu Junyong
Sun Xun
Ma Qiusha
