UTS Art Projects
UTS regularly seeks to undertake art projects that extend opportunities for working with artists and members of the UTS community as creative collaborators.
On Campus
In December 2009, the UTS Gallery hosted SNAP! - an exhibition of photographs selected from the Corrigan Collection. Alongside photographs by Jeremy Park, Martin Parr, Selina Ou, Alexander Seton, Matthew Sleeth and Darren Sylvester were self-portraits created by preschoolers attending the 'Magic Pudding' childcare centre at the City Campus of UTS, and a selection of photographs by Jon Lewis that had inspired them.
In 2008, the Science Building (CB04) became the venue for the temporary installation of The Artist Trapped in Artaud's Cage, a kinetic sculpture by Arthur Wicks.
The Thomas Street facade of the same building features a major commission Litmus (2006) by Ari Purhonen <more>
An earlier commissioned project was Richard Goodwin's sculptural installation (detail pictured right ) for the 1997 re-development of the UTS Law Faculty. Built into the external wall of the Moot Court in Quay Street, the installation features concrete panels with carved text (Articles 26 & 27 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights) and two glass and stainless steel tanks holding historic lawyers wigs and gowns preserved in nitrogen gas.
Touring Exhibitions
'Cinderella's Gems: Art and the Intellectual Mission' was a major touring exhibition developed and managed by UTS collaboratively with UNSW. The exhibition drew from the rich holdings of university Art Collections throughout New South Wales & ACT and toured regional Australia in 1999 and 2000.
Another exhibition which toured extensively both nationally and regionally was ' Leonardo da Vinci: Models of Genius' <more>
