As the Chairman of the inaugural Fine Arts Committee Professor Peter Johnson, foundation Chancellor of UTS, was the driving force in establishing the UTS Art Collection and later the UTS Gallery.
The UTS Art Collection was formed in the early '90s from the amalgamated art collections of the NSW Institute of Technology, Sydney College of the Arts design school, Kuring-gai College of Advanced Education and the Institute of Technical and Adult Teacher Education of the Sydney College of Advanced Education. The importance of the collection as a cultural asset of the University was acknowledged by the appointment of a Curator in 1992.
Under the curatorships of Susan Peacock, Tony Geddes, Felicity Sheehan and Tania Creighton, the UTS Art Collection has been developed further and now holds works by more than 500 Australian artists.
In 2002, the tenth anniversary of the UTS Art Collection was celebrated with an exhibition and publication entitled Points of View <more>
